Carpet Loom - 2009

Maryam Molki is an Iranian-American artist. She was born in Minneapolis, MN and was raised in the historic city of Isfahan, Iran.
She received her MFA honors from Rhode Island School of Design and is the recipient of 2008-2009 Fulbright Fellowship to Egypt.
In her latest work she is interested in the subject of artistic and cultural originality and exchange between Islamic and Western art.
Hand-woven Persian pile-carpets are the subject of her work. She transforms western manufactured machine-made carpets into art
objects, and by cutting, flipping over, misplacing, and re-attaching them she strives for the arrival of skill and handiwork in these
readymade products produced by western manufacturers that lack original identity and cultural value.
She currently lives and works in Edwardsville, IL.
